Dejavu win for Husband and wife running team at the Swedish half marathon championships as Samuel & Samrawit win again.
It was just a couple of weeks ago when the husband and wife team of Samuel Tsegay and Samrawit Mengisteab won a mid summer classic event that was held in Sweden. The duo once again did the unthinkable as both of them were victorious in the Swedish half marathon Championships last weekend. While some of our Eritrean athletes were competing in Eugene, Samuel and Samrawit were making history as a husband and wife team. Another Eritrean-Swede Samuel Russom took second in the men’s race as well.

Meanwhile, in the women’s race Samrawit Mengsteab took the lead from the beginning until the end of the race. For a while the lead was by about a minute, but on the last lap she started to fight harder and stayed strong to win the race with a time of 1:15,25. The men’s race was also unique as two former Eritrea national team runners went at it until the end. A duel between Hässelby’s(town in Sweden) Samuel Russom and Hälles (town in Sweden) Samuel Tsegay. Samuel Russom was leading the race most of the way, but during the last kilometer Samuel Tsegay took over and passed on to the finish line with a time of 1:04,07 ahead of his competitor.

Congratulations to all three athletes and another milestone for the husband and wife team who continue to make headlines in Swedish and European running.
