Johnny Berhanemeskel concludes Canadian summer league season and makes a move to Lithuania’s top team.

Eri-internationalsports recently reported on Johnny Berhanemeskel’s activities as he made a summer transition to Ottawa, Canada, where he joined the Ottawa Blackjacks of the CBL (Canadian Basketball League) for a short stint. The former University of Ottawa Gee-Gees star, had given some life to the BlackJacks late season surge after signing in earlier in July. Johnny wasn’t available for the BlackJacks in a playoff game due to his commitments after signing with BC Rytas based in the capital city of Vilnius, Lithuania. While his absence was a strong factor for the Blackjacks it was a difference in a tight game that saw lose to the Hamilton Honey Badgers in a 76-72 loss. Johnny had a successful stint in the French premiere league the past couple of years as he lead his team last season in scoring and was the second top scorer in the French league overall while playing for Roanne of the French premiere league.

Rytas Vilnius is a Lithuanian professional basketball with lots of accolades. The club was founded in 1997 officially and has become one of the most successful Lithuanian basketball clubs. Rytas Vilnius has won two European cup titles, six local Lithuanian titles, three Lithuanian Cups and three Baltic Championships. Many NBA stars have played for the club and have also come from the Lithuanian basketball League, making the country one of the top basketball playing nations in the world with very talented professionals. The club’s latest move in building a strong bid was landing Eritrean-Canadian Johnny Berhanemeskel. The explosive guard will play alongside other new players as the season approaches.

Johnny is a very talented guard that has a great shooting ability. Eritrean-American-Polish Thomas Kelati also played a similar style basketball as he too made a great career playing for several European clubs and eventually representing the Polish National team. Meanwhile, as an Eritrean-Canadian Johnny has already played for the Canadian national team and this will make his eighth team as a professional. Good luck to Johnny as this move will create a great opportunity for him as Rytas Vilnius will also be competing in the Championship Basketball league along with the best teams in Europe.
