Eritrean Biniam Girmay adds another award in a busy September 2022 schedule.

Eritrean Biniam Girmay adds another award in a busy September 2022 schedule.

Eritrea’s Biniam Girmay finished just behind Frenchman Benoit Cosnefroy & Australian Michael Matthews. Mathews is the two-time defending champion and he finished just four seconds behind the winner. Cosnefroy broke away from the pack on the last lap to win the 11th edition of the Grand Prix Cycliste de Quebec on Friday.

The official results of the race showed that while Cosnefroy finished the 201.6-kilometre race in a time of four hours, 46 minutes and 56 seconds both Matthews and Eritrean Biniam Girmay were at 47 minutes. One other controversy was that the official broadcast of the race ended up showing the wrong flag next to Biniam Girmay’s name during the final result showing angering thousands of Eritreans around the world. Eri-internationalsports has confronted and written an email to the organizers to let them know that the wrong flag was posted on the TV screens that saw the winning results around the world. We are expecting to hear back from them and when we do, we shall share the information.

Meanwhile, Biniam Girmay once again proved he is a world class cyclist representing his club UCI World Team Intermarché–Wanty–Gobert Matériaux. He proved he can compete with the best of them. His future is bright and this month alone in September, he will be racing a few events including the much awaited UCI race that will take place in Australia at the end of this month. Biniam and a great group of Eritrean cyclists will be representing Eritrea at the UCI championships. Bini will be in action on Sunday as well in the GP Montreal. After that, he will return to Europe to ride the GP de Wallonie which is a Belgian one-day race at the 1.Pro level, Bini and Team Eritrea then will go to the World Cycling Championships in Australia.

Congratulations to Biniam Girmay and much luck as he continues his push to be a top champion.
