Eritrean Runner Rahel Daniel wins historic race in Latin America.

Sunday, September 11, 2022 will mark another milestone for both Rahel Daniel and the city of Cali, Colombia when a race known as the Carrera del Pacífico will be held, for the first time ever. It is to be recalled this past summer at the world athletics championships also in Cali, Colombia two Eritreans Merhawi Mebrhatu and Habtom Samuel took 2nd and 3rd place prizes in the 5,000 meters. Rahel Daniel is slowly becoming one of the greatest runners in the world at a young age. What makes Rahel’s win exciting is the fact that there were so many great runners that took part in this race. In total, the event, according to sources from Colombia, had more than 40 elite athletes of the highest level on the starting list. Cali and Latin America now join the exclusive club of the world’s great Races such as those of New York, Boston, Berlin, London, Chicago, etc…

Rahel Daniel won with the time of 32 minutes and 23 seconds, beating second place Monica Ngige and third place Veronicah Nyaruhai of Kenya both. The mountainous climate and setting also favors Rahel as Colombia’s terrains are similar to that of Eritrea. It is also important to note that Colombia like Eritrea has some of the world’s best cyclists. Currently Rahel continues to be the International Athletics Association’s top cross country runner. The historic angle of this story is that the 10K race was being held for the first time in Latin America after being classified by the International Athletics Federation making Rahel Daniel also the first African and Eritrean to win the race which has now been sanctioned as an event that will take place every year.

Congratulations to Rahel Daniel and Eri-internationalsports is proud of her achievements as she continues to make history.
