Africa’s best rider 2023 wins the Tour of Rwanda.
In what has been an incredible month for for the sport of cycling in the continent of Africa, Eritrea has once again dominated through the up and coming international star Henok Muluberhan. The young rider from the club Green Project Bardiani CSF Faizané won at the African Championships that took place in Ghana a couple of weeks ago. Meanwhile, in the Tour de Rwanda, another which attracts some of the best riders from around the world, Henok was able to show, he can represent his nation and his club and play a significant role. In the final race Henok’s Eritrean team mate Dawit Yemane of Bike Aid stayed alone for a long period going up the steep hills surrounding the countryside. However, in the final stage, the departure from Kigali lasted 75.3 km. in the men’s classification. The international riders put on a great show as they attacked and chased each other and surpassed Dawit Yemane. From the group it was Henok Mulubrhan’s show after an amazing sprint beating the British Joseph Blackmore and the Spanish Victor De la Pate with Walter Calzoni taking fifth and Eritrean Dawit Yemane in 6th place. After the win, Henok expressed himself by saying;
“I’ve been trying for a long time to win the Tour du Rwanda and doing it this way makes everything even more beautiful”
The President of Rwanda, Paul Kagame, handed out the winning prizes. Henok made his nation proud as the Eritrean national anthem was playing. He was draped with the Eritrean flag around his neck. This was a proud moment for Henok and Eritrea. It was a result obtained by using his ability to climb up hill and sprint at the same time. His talent and hard work finally allowed him to win the most important race of the African continent after winning a continental championship just weeks ago.
